Destinee: The Vegan Baker

Meet Destinee! One of the wonderful bakers at Mozart’s.

She was born and raised in Austin, TX. She says she often drives by the hospital she was born in!

We asked Destinee how she originally became vegan. Her response was “I originally went Vegan because Beyonce did it, but I felt great so I am now 3 years in.”

Fun fact about Destinee: She competed on Food Network’s Christmas Cookie Challenge in 2018!

“My favorite thing to do is literally everything! I just love baking and decorating and being create. So much so that when I’m not baking at Mozart’s, I’m making cakes and decorated cookies for my own small business that I launched in January. When I’m not sleeping, I’m in the kitchen.”, says Destinee.

She is the mastermind behind our new Vegan Cookie; which you can find in the bake case today. Destinee spent over a year testing and tweaking her vegan chocolate chip cookie recipe. “Since I am a recent convert to veganism, I still remember what non-vegan cookies taste like — I didn’t want my vegan cookies to taste like they are lacking in anything. Once I came up with a recipe that I was proud of, I couldn’t stop making them! For myself, for my vegan friends, my carnivore family. They liked them so much that they began volun-telling me to make them for events!”

She says her friends/family called them the “Vegan Gateway Drug”. Sharing this recipe with Mozart’s was a no brainer for her. She is honored and excited to be able to offer her fellow vegans another option since she knows the struggle.

Her hope is that she can expand the vegan menu even more in the near future. Stay tuned! In the meantime, be sure to check out Destinee’s creations that are already out and ready for you to eat.

A Mozart’s Love Story : Randi and Jesse

People come to Mozart’s for many different reasons. Whether it’s stopping in on your way out of town or sitting in the same spot under the tree every Sunday — there’s something special about our lakeside abode.

Take it from these two: Randi & Jesse.

On any given day, you may find Randi and her husband Jesse sitting out on the patio. What you may not know about them is that they actually met at Mozart’s! We asked Randi about that day, and this is how it goes. “So my husband and I met accidentally, through a whirlwind of poor timing, (my friend was running late, his parents were in town because he’d just become an attorney) and were destined to be together.  His little dog broke off her leash and attacked my large great dane (puppy at the time!) – (Great Dane, Charlotte, is 6yo now!) and I asked him if this was how he tried to pick up women. He said, on that day, that it was. We began some lighthearted banter –  and we’ve been together since.”

Randi goes on to mention what Mozart’s means to her. “This shop is a home away from home for me.  When my husband and I have family or friends staying at our house, it’s the first place we bring people.  When we need an escape one or both of us will head over.  We can sit and work, focus on what we need to, and are always around kind people and delicious brews.  It’s also a great place to just work quietly, as a lot of my sales job revolves around typing and honing in on proposals, and I can edit and work freely – with the most perfect bottomless drinks in the summer and always-outdoor-months in Austin!”

What a story! Randi says she studied here during undergrad from 2000-2004 and has been frequenting ever since. She says no matter where she goes in life, she will always come back to Mozart’s!

Her go to drink: extra ice, bottomless black tea.  Right amount of caffeine and bite, cold and crisp every time!

Randi and Jesse — your Mozart’s family loves you. Be sure to say hi to them next time you’re at Mozart’s. I’m sure they would love to meet you!

The First In-House Roaster in Austin, TX!

Twenty-five years ago, Mozart’s Coffee Roasters broke into the Austin’s coffee culture by being the first in-house roaster.

Yes, others were roasting their own beans, but none in house. That same roaster is the same one you’ll find on the premises today!

We’ve worked hard to establish our classic blends by taking the best practices for artisan roasting and implementing each process here at Mozarts to ensure we have consistent quality for all our roasts. These blends are created, blended, and roasted in the age-old Northern-European Germanic tradition of smooth and bold flavor profiles. These coffees are of the medium to dark roast spectrum reflecting the classic coffees of Europe in the twentieth century.

Moving forward, we have developed a newer line of offerings that are reflective of the 21st century and it’s evolution of lighter roasted, uniquely- sourced and selected single origin coffees, espressos, and old blends.

Be sure to swing by not only to see our in-house roasting happening live, but also to grab a bag of coffee beans to take a little piece of Mozart’s history home with you.
