The Person Behind The Voice: Morgan Nicole Music

Mozart’s is no stranger to the Austin music scene, and neither is Indie Pop Singer/Songwriter, Morgan Nicole. She may have only been performing at Mozart’s for 1 year now, but she has been heavily involved in the music industry since she was just 12 years old.

If you have heard her play anywhere in town, you know that her voice is incredible and her music so beautiful; but there is even more to her than that!

We asked Morgan the typical Mozart’s Story Questions, and here’s what she has to say:

Favorite Drink at Mozart’s: Iced Latte

Favorite Dessert at Mozart’s: Oreo Cheesecake

We also like to ask all of our guest bloggers what they love about Mozart’s! She said she loves Mozart’s for it’s atmosphere, it’s view of the lake, it’s friendly staff, great coffee, and delicious treats. “I love hanging out and playing on the beautiful deck with all the lights. It’s always a friendly and supportive crowd”, says Morgan.

“Mozart’s represents everything great about Austin. It supports the live music scene, the college crowd, families, and even business people who come to work and enjoy the atmosphere.” We couldn’t agree more with you!

A fun fact for you to know is that she has been in Austin since she was 4 years old! She was homeschooled growing up so being present at a coffee shop, on her laptop, surrounded by people is no foreign atmosphere to her. She said she feels right at home here!

Be sure to check out her music online through her site here as well as her Instagram page here.

She will be performing LIVE at Mozart’s again on September 28th. A night you don’t want to miss!

Morgan — thank you for blessing us with your talents and entertaining us while we sip our coffee. We hope to continue this relationship for a long time.

Mozart’s by Day, Superstar by Night: Emily D

Meet Emily DiFranco! From shift supervisor to night manager — Emily is always helping out around our places any way she can.

Emily has been working at Mozart’s for 3 years now. She helps lead our team, sling drinks behind the bar, make the bake case look beautiful, and trains employees.

We just walked up to the bar and asked her what she is drinking right this second. Her answer? An Iced Oat Milk Latte with Honey — YUM! Her go to savory item is always the classic garlic bagel, but when Emily is in the mood for something sweet, she picks up a Snickerdoodle cookie.

Emily is such an asset to the Mozart’s team, but that’s not all she is an asset to. Sometimes she hits the road for months at a time! Not just for fun, but because she has a key role in the up and coming Austin band, TC Superstar.

As choreographer and dancer, Emily spends most of her time outside of Mozart’s practicing with the band, preparing dance routines for their latest hits, and traveling on tour to perform all over the United States.

If you haven’t heard of TC Superstar, you should absolutely look them up. There is truly nothing like them!

From their Facebook bio, this is what they say about themselves. “TC Superstar is a collaborative performance group fronted by Connor McCampbell. McCampbell’s production style is rooted in modern bedroom pop, but alludes to 80’s synthwave and late 70’s dance music. TC Superstar’s live set features high-energy dance performances choreographed by LB Flett, Emily DiFranco, Francis Rodriguez, and Yuriko Roby — all graduates of the dance program at The University of Texas at Austin. Performing musicians include Julio Correa, Mitchell Webb, and Aaron Chavez.

The band formed in September of 2017 with the release of Masc, an album about notions of masculinity. TC Superstar quickly became a staple of the Austin scene, gigging frequently around the Red River cultural arts district.”

Check them out on their Facebook page here as well as their Instagram for upcoming shows in Austin, tour dates, and more.

We are so proud of Emily and all she is doing! She will forever be part of the Mozart’s family. Oh, and we can’t forget about her adorable cat Leo.

Say hi to Emily next time you’re in and for bonus points, check out one of their shows!

Take Mozart’s Home With You

After quite some time of dreaming and designing, we finally have the finished product of our NEW printed coffee bags!

Since the beginning of Mozart’s time, we have been roasting coffee in house. Just read back a few stories here on our site and you’ll learn the rich history of our in-house coffee roaster!

For over 25 years, people have come from all over the world to not only drink the coffee we serve by our spectacular lakeside view, but to purchase a bag of freshly roasted coffee to take back home with them. Mozart’s Coffee makes the perfect memory, the most delicious taste of Austin, and a great gift for a loved one.

Yοu’ll notice on our new bags how intricate the scenic sketch is. Not only did we stick with the Kraft look to match the traditional packaging we have been using forever, but we added a Mozart’s staple to the front to really encompass what it feels like to step foot into our world.

The tree on the front is one of the most iconic things about the Mozart’s campus! It is the center, the foundation. During the days, you will find people sitting underneath this tree writing books, starting businesses, finishing degrees, having first dates. By night you will find people sitting next to the tree listening to live music, soaking in the night air, getting engaged.

If you flip the bag over on the side, you will notice our iconic “stamp” included on the new packaging. Did you know that this “stamp” is painted on a wall down by the lake next to The Grotto? “Get More Out Of Life With Coffee!” is a part of what makes Mozart’s, Mozart’s!

Plus it’s true… you can get so much more out of life with coffee.

These bags may be hot off the press, but so is our coffee from the roaster. You can find these new bags filled with coffee starting now in store as well as online. These bags are more than just a step up in our packaging, they are a piece of our home, going to yours.

Mozart’s Mocktails Partnership with Liber & Co.

Mozart’s has unveiled a new line of non-alcoholic craft beverages heading into fall. Our list of new drinks will be: the Ginger-Snap Mocha, the Fig-ured it Out Cold Brew, the Pineapple-Grapefruit Karkade, the Almond Limonata, and the Taste of the Tropics. Each of these drinks was designed with a craft beverage industry trend in mind through a collaborative effort involving both Liber & Co. Essential Cocktail Syrups and Mozart’s Coffee Roasters.

Liber & Co. is a craft syrup creator from right here in Austin. Since its inception in late 2011, Liber & Co. has been owned and operated by three college friends (UT grads)!

Liber supplies bars and restaurants around the United States with high quality syrups produced in the same style and using the same techniques as syrups made in-house at the world’s top cocktail bars. Unlike commoditized syrups commonly used across the beverage industry, Liber & Co. syrups are made with all-natural raw ingredients like organic fresh ginger juice, Texas Rio Red grapefruits, and pure cane sugar to create unique syrups that have an unrivaled quality in the industry. We believe that flavored syrups simply don’t cut it in today’s beverage world, as customers continue to gravitate toward real ingredients that are easily understood.

The goal for this program is to expand Mozart’s offerings in line with the current mocktail/refresher trend . Hopefully in two months you’ll be able to call them one of Mozart’s new signatures and a part of what has kept Mozart’s at the forefront of the Coffeeshop industry in Austin.

Green Bean Storage

As you know, Mozart’s is known for many things, one being that we roast our coffee in house. On any given day that you step foot on our lakeside abode, you will find the original roaster in the roasting room right outside our front doors!

What you probably didn’t know is where we keep all of our green beans. First of all, green beans aren’t the ones you eat for dinner. What we mean by green beans are the coffee beans we have that are in their natural state aka before roasting.

Our Head Roaster, Jack Ranstrom, takes a trip to our off-site storage unit 3 TIMES A WEEK to pick up fresh green beans! That’s a lot of coffee. Jack says, “In storage we keep about three months worth of coffee which is 10,000 Green pounds that I have to personally inventory batch out of and re-load every few weeks.”

Check out the image below to see what we are talking about!

Since we are a small batch roastery, we roast about 20 pound batches at a time. This turns out to about 16-17 pounds of roasted coffee when it’s all said and done.

We may be small, but we sure are mighty! Be sure to stop by sometime and check out our roasting room. You may even get lucky and see the fresh smoke evaporating from the room followed by a smoky, flavorful smell.

Meet McKenna: Musician, Rower, and Iced Green Tea Lover

McKenna Michels has quite the story. You can find her playing music almost every weekend at Mozart’s, but her journey to get there was more a leap of faith. Here is what McKenna has to say about facing her fears and doing something she has never done before.

“I have two special experiences at Mozart’s. The first is when I met Stacey (one of the owners of Mozart’s Coffee Roasters). I am a musician and had never performed. I had about 3 songs written and wanted to start doing something with them. I had seen music at Mozart’s before and knew it was similar to my sound. So the Saturday before Mother’s Day 2019 I went in and asked how I could play, which was a major leap of faith for me. Stacey listened to my nervous pitch and took the chance to listen to my music. She responded “how about tomorrow?”. For me, this moment was special because it was a major milestone for me to gain the confidence to perform. Mozart’s took a chance on me from day one and gave me the chance to start following my dreams.

There’s more to McKenna than her musical talent. We asked her for some fun facts about herself and she said, “I’m a rower on the University of Texas’s Women’s Rowing team. I’m also majoring in Business Technology, which no one ever expects because I’m a singer! Another thing no one expects, I was classically trained in Opera when I was in high school. I even performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington DC my senior year.” So many talents!

McKenna’s go to order at Mozart’s is definitely an Iced Green Tea. Sometimes she will throw in an Iced Coffee, though. Her go to dessert is hands down the Gluten-Free Cheesecake. She said the White Chocolate on top is “just too good!”.

Another special thing that keeps her coming back to Mozart’s time and time again is the crowd. “Whether I’m performing, studying, enjoying nature, or talking with friends, it’s always an amazing environment. People are incredibly friendly and open to talking to you and truly appreciate the special environment of Mozart’s” says McKenna.

Her biggest supporters? The kids at Mozart’s! “They are always so excited and I sometimes invite them up to the front to sing Disney songs with me. This happened in July, but these girls were my first real fans. They wanted pictures with me, of me, and to play along and sing. It touches my heart every time because I used to be the exact same way, it brings back incredible memories.”

As mentioned above, you can find McKenna playing at Mozart’s almost every weekend. Be sure to follow her on Instagram @mckennamichelsmusic! And guess what… she’s releasing an album later this month so be sure to follow along so you can continue to support her!

McKenna — thank you for being an inspiration to us all. You will always have a family cheering you on here at Mozart’s.

Espresso Your Self

What is Espresso?

Espresso is a certain type of coffee drink that is pulled from an espresso machine. It is a full-flavored , concentrated form of coffee that is made by forcing pressurized hot water through very finely ground coffee beans.

At Mozart’s, we have two espresso blends that we trade out often. Our signature espresso blend is the Mozart’s D’oro and the other is called WiseGuy Espresso.

Espresso D’oro has been our golden espresso since 1999. This espresso has a caramel, chocolate body and citrus fruit acidity.

WiseGuy Espresso is a light roast Scandinavia style that will give you a clean, bright, and sweet taste.

There are many ways to drink Espresso! It is naturally pulled in shots. Originally, it was served alone as a 1oz. espresso shot. Most prefer a double shot which is also called ‘Doppio’. Either way, espresso is meant to be sipped slowly so you can enjoy it’s full, rich flavor.

If you aren’t quite ready for straight espresso, there are many other popular espresso drinks such as:

  • Cappuccino – espresso / frothed milk
  • Latte – espresso / milk
  • Americano – espresso / water

Many of the above drinks can come hot, iced, with syrup, with whipped-cream, and more.

If you haven’t tried espresso before, give it a shot (pun intended)! It may be that extra boost of energy you are looking for.

Meet Baylor University Cheerleader — Summer Lewis

If you’ve been keeping up with the Mozart’s stories, you will notice a trend: people love Mozart’s and they all have a unique reason for coming back.

Summer Lewis tagged us in her story on Instagram a couple times over the past few weeks, so we decided to reach out and learn more about what keeps her coming back time and time again. (Quick plug — be sure to mention us on your social media or reach out to us via DM so we can share your stories, too!)

We asked Summer a few easy questions so that we can all get to know her a little better. Check out the interview below!

Where are you from? Buda, Texas

What is a fun fact about yourself? I’m a Baylor University Cheerleader!

What is your go to order at Mozart’s? Vanilla Latte (Hot if it’s cold, Iced if it’s hot — I come all times of the year!)

What keeps you coming back to Mozart’s again and again? Mozart’s is a special place to me because no matter if I’m there for an hour or five, good conversations & stronger relationships build each time. Summer goes on to add, “I’ve met people here, said goodbye to people here, and had some of the sweetest reunions here. I can truly say Mozart’s is my favorite place on earth — especially at sunset.”

Meet The Mozart’s Staff: Mary B.

Saturday through Wednesday, you can guarantee that on any given morning you will walk in the front doors of Mozart’s and see the bright, shining smile of Mary Blalock.

Mary has been with Mozart’s for 5 years now! WOW! After studying Arabic in college and working at Mozart’s, she decided to continue her career here and grow in the coffee world. Mary has now worked her way up to the title of Morning Manager.

Here are some of Mary’s favorite things to eat/drink at Mozart’s:

  • Favorite drink? Cold brew with Oat Milk or a Coconut Almond Iced Latte with Coconut Milk
  • Favorite Breakfast Item? “Hands down the Mozart’s Coffee Cake”
  • Favorite Dessert? The Vegan Chocolate Chip Cookie

More fun facts? Of course! Mary has a free-roam bunny rabbit named Bernie!

Mary said she has loved Mozart’s since the beginning. Her favorite things include that we roast our own beans and that she’s gotten to know the morning regulars by name. Her favorite part about being a morning manager is that she gets to see the people that come in every single day. She’s built relationships with these customers that have even led to great friendships!

Apart from the amazing customers, Mary loves the old school ambience that Mozart’s has to offer. She says “It’s a different style coffee shop that any of the other shops around town. It’s very unique!”.

Say hi to Mary next time you’re in! 🙂

Let’s Talk About Cupcakes…

In the late nineteenth century, cupcakes received their name because their ingredients were measured by the cup full! They were originally baked in teacups — hence the name Cup Cakes. Of course, this was before the multi-cup pan was invented.

Cupcakes are one of the many things that our bakers love baking at Mozart’s. There’s so many different flavors and additions! Right now they are whipping up vanilla, lavender, oreo, and raspberry — but the fun doesn’t stop there. There’s new for every season!

Sarah, one of our wonderful bakers, says our original white cake recipe involves cooking some of the ingredients on the stove along with two mixers. “It’s much more involved than other cake recipes but so worth it. It’s the best white cake recipe I’ve seen!” – Sarah Hamilton

Check out these beauties below! Blended, mixed, baked, and topped beautifully to perfection.
